Sobre mi
Andres Felipe Vargas Rivera
I'm Andrés Felipe Vargas, Lead Software Engineer and lecturer at Tecnológico de Costa Rica, where I teach Database Systems and Cybersecurity Fundamentals. I hold an MSc in Computer Science and co-authored "Towards AI-Based Identification of Publicly Known Vulnerabilities" (ESORICS 2024, Springer). Over 7+ years, I’ve led full-stack architecture, cloud DevOps pipelines and GPU validation work across companies like Intel, Wind River, Align Technology and Walmart. I’ve also led engineering teams and driven technical initiatives end-to-end, aligning engineers, product stakeholders and leadership around complex systems and decisions. Teams I’ve mentored have reduced delivery cycles by 30% through AI-assisted workflows. A core part of my work has been communicating complex technical ideas to different audiences — from engineers to product and executive stakeholders — translating deep technical concepts into clear, actionable decisions that move projects forward. I help Senior engineers transition into Tech Lead, Software Architect or Staff roles by building the skills those positions actually demand: decision-making under pressure, end-to-end ownership of technical initiatives, communicating complex problems across audiences, designing architectures under real-world constraints and navigating the technical-vs-business trade-off.

A structured 5-session program for engineers who master the technical side but struggle when it comes to communicating, influencing and defending proposals in front of stakeholders. The gap between Senior and Staff/Architect is rarely technical — it's communicative. Session 1 — Audience mapping: we identify the 3-5 key audiences for your role (engineers, PMs, leadership, clients, cross-functional teams) and the register each one needs. Session 2 — Technical → business translation: turning an architecture problem into a roadmap defensible in front of finance, product and C-level. We work a real case of yours. Session 3 — High-impact written communication: RFCs, design docs, post-mortems. We review one of your actual documents and rewrite it together. Session 4 — Presentations under pressure: structure, technical storytelling, handling hard questions. We record a presentation and analyze it together. Session 5 — Leadership without formal authority: influencing, negotiating trade-offs and aligning a team when you're not their manager. Final deliverable: a personal technical-communication playbook with templates (RFC, design doc, presentation, one-pager) and recorded feedback on a real presentation of yours. For whom: Tech Engineers targeting Senior positions that want to make a difference when communicating their projects and tasks, or those about to present a critical project and needing to win the room.
