Sobre mi
Andres Felipe Vargas Rivera
I'm Andrés Felipe Vargas, Lead Software Engineer and lecturer at Tecnológico de Costa Rica, where I teach Database Systems and Cybersecurity Fundamentals. I hold an MSc in Computer Science and co-authored "Towards AI-Based Identification of Publicly Known Vulnerabilities" (ESORICS 2024, Springer). Over 7+ years, I’ve led full-stack architecture, cloud DevOps pipelines and GPU validation work across companies like Intel, Wind River, Align Technology and Walmart. I’ve also led engineering teams and driven technical initiatives end-to-end, aligning engineers, product stakeholders and leadership around complex systems and decisions. Teams I’ve mentored have reduced delivery cycles by 30% through AI-assisted workflows. A core part of my work has been communicating complex technical ideas to different audiences — from engineers to product and executive stakeholders — translating deep technical concepts into clear, actionable decisions that move projects forward. I help Senior engineers transition into Tech Lead, Software Architect or Staff roles by building the skills those positions actually demand: decision-making under pressure, end-to-end ownership of technical initiatives, communicating complex problems across audiences, designing architectures under real-world constraints and navigating the technical-vs-business trade-off.

A structured 5-session program designed for engineers navigating fast-changing environments shaped by AI. The role of the engineer is shifting: coding is no longer the bottleneck — judgment, validation and decision-making are. This program helps you understand your new role, redefine your responsibilities and build the skills needed to stay relevant and effective. Session 1 — The new engineering landscape: We analyze how AI is changing engineering roles. What is being automated, what remains critical and where you should focus your effort. Session 2 — Your role in AI-driven systems: We define your responsibilities: what you should build, what you should review and what you should delegate to AI tools. Session 3 — Working with AI tools: How to use tools like ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot or Devin effectively — not as shortcuts, but as force multipliers. Prompting, iteration and validation. Session 4 — Decision-making under uncertainty: How to evaluate AI-generated output, manage trade-offs, avoid blind trust and maintain quality in high-speed environments. Session 5 — Positioning yourself for the future: We define your growth path (Senior → Staff / Lead), what skills to build next and how to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving ecosystem. Final deliverable: A personal AI-adaptation playbook including workflows, decision frameworks and a clear positioning strategy for your role. For whom: Engineers who feel the pressure of AI-driven change and want to adapt quickly without losing control over quality or direction.
